Project Description:
G.W. Becker, Inc. commissioned two (2) new 50/15 ton electric overhead traveling cranes for a manufacturer of marine propulsion components in Erie, Pennsylvania. Each crane had a single trolley with two hoists, welded box girders, full length footwalks, and eight (8) wheel bridge design with equalizing end trucks and end ties with yokes and bogey pins. These 4-motion heavy service EOT crane were designed to be installed on an existing runway system of 60’ span and 35’ of lift. The hoists were designed with flux vector hoisting up to 21 FPM allowing for precision to load/unload product. The travel drives were designed with infinitely variable control and offer state of the art precision handling for extremely smooth control and minimal maintenance. Micro-Speed was enabled for four (4) motions which will limit the overall top speed of the crane movements and adjust the controls so that full master switch lever motion controls speed in the reduced range, effectively giving the operator more resolution in the control levers. The crane is operated by a “Belly Box” with A/B/Both selector switch as primary and an open cab as a second means of operation. This turnkey project included the new EOT crane, 1,280ft / 500 amp runway electrical system and self-performing installation and commissioning to meet all current applicable CMAA, OSHA, ANSI/ASME, and NEC specifications.
