40/10 TON DC CHARGING CRANE (#20105)

Project Description:
G.W. Becker, Inc. commissioned a new 40/10 ton electric overhead traveling charging crane for a steel producer in Pennsylvania.  This new crane is a replacement for an antiquated unit in the customer’s melt shop facility.  This high-speed, 230 VDC, 4-motion continuous severe service EOT crane was designed to be installed on an existing runway system of 58’ span and 40’ of lift.  This mill duty crane has an eight (8) wheel bridge design with equalizing end trucks and end ties with yokes and bogey pins, A-5 type bridge drive with foot mounted parallel shaft reducers with foot mounted drives, high temp wiring and motors for high ambient temperature range of 320 F to 1400 F.  The 10 ton auxiliary hoist is magnet duty.  Operated from an enclosed, insulated, climate controlled cab which has double pane, safety glass on three sides with mill duty master switches. This turnkey project included the new EOT crane, upgrading runway electrification and supervision of installation to meet all current applicable CMAA, OSHA, ANSI/ASME, and NEC specifications.
