Project Description:

At G.W. Becker Inc., we recently completed an exciting project involving a custom 30-ton crane designed to meet the rigorous demands of our client’s operations. This state-of-the-art crane features a three-motion, top-running, double girder bridge design, meticulously crafted according to current industry standards, including CMAA, ANSI/ASME, OSHA, and NEC. Our team took on the challenge to deliver a crane that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of continuous severe service operations, rated under CMAA Class ‘F’.

With a span of 75 feet and a lift height of 15 feet, this crane operates seamlessly within an indoor environment, with an ambient temperature range of 60°F to 160°F. The bridge speed reaches an impressive 400 feet per minute, powered by two 100 HP motors with variable frequency controls for precise movement. This design ensures that the crane can handle the tough demands of heavy lifting while maintaining smooth and reliable operation.

One of the standout features of this crane is its built-up trolley hoist, which has been tailored for high performance. The hoist operates at a speed of 75 feet per minute, powered by a robust 250 HP motor with flux vector control. This level of power and control is crucial for the direct reeving system, which connects to a motorized ingot lifter, utilizing four ropes with a two-part double setup for enhanced safety and efficiency. Safety is paramount in our designs, and this crane is equipped with several built-in safety features, including an overload limit sensor and collision avoidance systems on both sides of the crane.

The operator experience was also a key consideration in this project. The crane features an enclosed cab outfitted with a J.R. Merritt operator chair for comfort, along with Cattron radio remote controls that allow for versatile operation from a safe distance. Plus, the crane is equipped with audible warning devices and LED status lights, ensuring that operators and personnel are always aware of its movements and operational status.

Throughout this project, our commitment to service was evident in every phase of the process. Our custom engineering team worked closely with the client to design a crane that precisely met their needs, ensuring that all specifications were not only met but optimized for performance. Our skilled installation team managed the complete setup, followed by thorough load testing and commissioning to confirm that every component functioned as intended. This hands-on approach guarantees that our clients receive not just a piece of equipment but a reliable solution tailored to their operational requirements. We also offer continuous field service inspections and maintenance, providing our clients peace of mind that their investment remains in peak operating condition throughout its lifespan.

As a full-service turnkey solutions provider, G.W. Becker Inc. takes pride in offering more than just cranes; we deliver a complete lifecycle of support and services to our clients. Our extensive list of offerings includes regular inspections to ensure safety and compliance, along with operator training programs that equip teams with the knowledge necessary to operate our cranes effectively.
