Project Description:

G.W. Becker, Inc. commissioned two identical 15-ton top-running double girder overhead cranes for a customer in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

These Class D heavy service, 3-motion electric overhead traveling cranes feature box girders, 48-foot spans, 20-foot lift heights, and operate with a 460V, 3-phase power supply.

Designed for demanding applications, the cranes include:

  • Belly box radio controls for efficient operation.
  • Operator-controlled audible warning device, motion sirens for bridge and trolley travel, and crane status lights (green during operation and red when off).
  • Red LED drop zone lighting for enhanced visibility and safety.
  • Anti-sway functionality to ensure load stability.
  • A main crane disconnect switch with a lockable circuit breaker for added safety.
  • Unitized controls housed in a NEMA 12 air-conditioned enclosure mounted on the footwalk.
  • Four LED high bay lights for optimal illumination.
  • Full-length footwalk on G1 girder with handrail for safe and convenient access.
  • Service platform on G2 girder with handrail, offering additional maintenance accessibility.
  • Fall prevention tie-offs at the boarding gate and open end of the service platform to enhance operator safety.
  • The project included the takedown of two existing cranes, followed by the installation and commissioning of the new cranes.
  • The cranes were built to handle ambient operating temperatures between 40°F and 104°F and comply with all applicable industry standards, including CMAA, ANSI/ASME, OSHA, and NEC specifications.

This project highlights G.W. Becker, Inc.’s ability to deliver comprehensive material handling solutions, from crane removal to the design, manufacture, and installation of state-of-the-art equipment tailored to meet the customer’s needs.
