Hazardous duty crane shipping out

Project Description

At G.W. Becker, Inc., we take pride in engineering custom overhead cranes built for challenging environments. This week, we successfully shipped and prepared for installation a 5-ton single girder bridge crane designed for a hazardous location.

This project showcases our expertise in manufacturing lifting solutions that meet strict industry regulations, including CMAA, ANSI/ASME, OSHA, and NEC standards. From design to delivery, we ensured that every component was built for safety, reliability, and efficiency in demanding conditions.

This top-running, single girder bridge crane is designed for Class I, Division 2, Groups C & D hazardous locations. With spark-resistant mechanical features, it enhances safety in environments where flammable vapors may be present.

    • Neoprene Festoon System
  • Hazardous Location Controls:
    • NEMA 7 bridge control enclosure
    • IP-55-rated hoist and trolley enclosures

Runway Electrification System

To power the crane, we provided a 117-foot festoon electrification system ensuring smooth and reliable operation.

Inspection, Testing & Commissioning

This crane’s commissioning process includes:

  • Electrical Wiring – Connecting the crane to power leads at runway elevation and ensuring all motors and controls are properly integrated.
  • Structural, Mechanical & Electrical Inspection – Verifying compliance with OSHA 29CFR1910.179 and other safety regulations.
  • Load Testing & Certification – Conducting a full-load test using weights transported by G.W. Becker, Inc. and providing certified documentation for compliance.

Ensuring Safe & Efficient Crane Operations

From hazardous location compliance to custom engineering solutions, this project is a testament to our commitment to providing safe, reliable, and high-performing lifting systems.
