RUNWAY SURVEYS
G. W. Becker, Inc. performs a thorough survey of the overhead crane runway rails.
The survey will include measurements for the evaluation of:
- rail straightness
- rail head elevation span
- rail to rail elevation
These measurements will then be compared to tolerances set forth in the Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc. Specification #70 revised 2020 and Specification #74 revised 2020. Subsequent to completion of the survey, G. W. Becker, Inc. will provide a written report including:
- qualifications
- disclaimer
- tolerances
- graphs of rail measurements
- commentary
- summary
RUNWAY ELECTRIFICATION
G.W. Becker, Inc. is a distributor of a variety of crane electrification systems and accessories for providing power and control.
These systems are basically subdivided into the following:
- Conductor Bar Systems
- Festoon Systems
- Cable Reels
Conductor Bars consist of a series of insulated bars made out of galvanized steel, copper, stainless steel, or aluminum, which transmit electricity through sliding collector assemblies that power the motors, trolleys, hoists, etc. They are typically used on monorails, runways, and bridge crane applications. Some types are also available with a curved design. Variations include Figure 8 Bars, Side Contact Bars, Heated Conductors, Cluster Bars, and Heavy Duty (High Amperage) Bars.
In order to properly select a bar system, it is necessary to determine the following:
- Type of System (monorail, runway, bridge)
- Length of Run
- Number of Cranes and Current Requirements
- Number of Conductors (calculate an extra for ground)
- Location of Power Feed
- System Voltage
- Temperature and Duty Cycle
- Environment
RUNWAY INSPECTIONS
G. W. Becker, Inc. performs a thorough visual inspection of the runway supporting structure from the floor to the crane rails including:
- rail and rail fastening system
- runway girders
- girder seats or stools
- columns and column bases (if applicable)
- runway end stops
- hardware (missing and/or loose)
Deficient items or areas will be marked in the field and noted within the report.
Subsequent to the completion of the inspection, G.W. Becker, Inc. will provide a written report that will include:
- pictures of typical construction and deficient items
- commentary on the stools, columns, rails and girders
- recommended repairs
Please note that this inspection does not include any NDT (Non-Destructive Testing). However, G.W. Becker, Inc. can accommodate the need for NDT upon request.
Also, the inspection is not an engineering study and is not a verification of allowable design stresses, material integrity, or workmanship.
