SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and testing mechanical components and systems for overhead traveling cranes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Design and specify mechanical components related to electric overhead traveling cranes and hoists.
• Perform mechanical calculations in accordance with GWBI Design Standards.
• Generate layouts to determine configuration, components and to ensure compliance with applicable design and safety standards.
• Develop approval drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, bills of material and maintenance manuals.
• Coordinate the Engineering schedule with the production schedule to ensure all project milestones and material delivery requirements are met.
• Monitor project costs.
• Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
• Provide technical customer service (facilitated through the Sales department if necessary).
• Provide manufacturing support to overcome complications in production (e.g., engineering design problems, material availability, fabrication/assembly issues).
• Conduct site visits as needed to perform data collections, troubleshoot equipment or to perform inspections.
• Assist Sales team with equipment specification as needed.
COMPETENCIES
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of overhead crane related goods and services.
• Knowledge of mathematic principles and their applications in engineering.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, models and material specification.
• Knowledge of 2D or 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Knowledge of finite element analysis, including the creation of models and interpretation of results.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques to maximize the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hand to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms· climb or balance; stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The
employee is occasionally required to sit.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild and consistent with an office setting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
• This is a full-time position. Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required as needed.
TRAVEL
• This position may require travel.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; 3-5 years of experience in the mechanical engineering field; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
• Current valid driver’s license, safe driving record and reliable mode of transportation.
